'Building a Home’, written for so many people I know seeking stability in flatpack furniture and soft furnishings, this track explores building a life one small thing at a time. Whilst life moves past like a time-lapse this song aims to capture how we slowly we form the picture piece by piece. With a full sound of synth, keys, bass, brass and multi layered vocals this takes a step into a pop production, whilst keeping firmly rooted in the anecdotal lyrics and subtle melodies of folk. (For fans of Gabrielle Aplin, Becky Hill and The Deep Blue)
lyrics
Building a home
Never takes long
When you’re around
I know, which way is up, which way is down
Time, moves along
The garden it grows a time lapse of all this
Work and commuting
Just living and resting
A picture is taking shape
it’s not gonna take long, and it’s you I’ll be counting on
We’ll paint my numbers, fill in the spaces
Pieces of a puzzle are taking their shape
A black and white cat under a white kitchen table tell me two and two make four
Yellow headlights, car hum at night
Crawl into bed, finally feels alright
We’ve got our whole lives
If you’re gone all night
Time on my own, oh it won’t feel so long
Cause we’ve got our whole life
Ahead of us
You’re the one I’m thinking of always
We’ll paint by numbers, colour block lego
We’ll paint the workroom a warm terrocotta
And the colours of Sheffield remind me of my friends
And that feels alright
And the number 55 must be kingfisher blue
And the golden numbers, remind me that I’m coming home to you
18, 25, 1, 2, 3 4,
We’ll paint by numbers, fill in the spaces
Pieces of a puzzle are taking their shape
A black and white cat under a white kitchen table tell me two and two make four
We’ll paint by numbers, colour block lego
We’ll paint the workroom a warm terrocotta
And the colours of Sheffield remind me of my friends
And that feels alright
And the number 55, must be kingfisher blue
And the golden numbers, remind me that I’m coming home to you
